On Christmas Eve 2011, our family tragically lost our brother, Michael, 42, SCAT paramedic, who was killed as he was trying to rescue an injured first-time canyoner from a cliff ledge in a gorge in the Budderoo National Park near Wollongong.
I was in a dark place until a friend of mine, Leigh, arranged for me to adopt a dumped kitten, Tony (pictured on the left), in January 2012. It’s just amazing how a feline, or any animal for that matter, can help with one’s sorrowful mental health and is such a comfort. Tony is my assistant cat!
Tony and Holly
Then I adopted Holly who was a rescued cat. She was the “boss cocky” but very sweet-natured. Both Tony and Holly were my saviours.
Unfortunately, sadly Holly passed away this year when she escaped in my recent move and was found too late.
The good news is that Tony and I have soldiered on, and Holly is with us to this day.

We delight in watching our beloved furkids flourish in their happily-ever-after homes.
Life began tough for Scotty and Dax, the only surviving siblings found on a property in Rydal. Scotty's tale holds a particularly harrowing chapter, where he nearly lost his front left paw to a hostile tomcat. He was swiftly rescued and transported to the vet for immediate care, where they managed to salvage remnants of his paw.
Miraculously, Scotty adapted to his new impediment just fine. His resilience is inspiring, but it wasn't solely his strength that saw him through the ordeal—Dax his sister, played a crucial role in his recovery. Her undying love and sisterly instincts led her to incessantly lick Scotty's wounds, staunching the bleeding until he received medical aid.
Today, Scotty and Dax are inseparable, their bond stronger than ever. Their story is a testament to the unique connection they share, serving as a palpable embodiment of what it means to be a 'bonded pair'. Their love for each other radiates just as brightly as the day they were rescued.

Formerly known as Mittens, Darla came into BMD Cat Welfare Group's care after her previous owner could no longer provide for her. Despite losing an eye in a car accident, Darla's spirit remained unbroken.
While several inquiries were made about adopting Darla, finding the right match took time. Patience paid off when she met her perfect human companion. Now, Darla not only has a loving home but also shares her bed with her new canine brother, Odie.
In her new environment, Darla has flourished. She's embraced her role as the queen of the house, showering her family with an abundance of love and happiness. Her journey demonstrates that cats with challenging pasts or physical differences have just as much love to give.
Darla's story serves as a reminder that every cat, regardless of their history or appearance, deserves a loving home. As we celebrate her successful adoption, we're inspired to continue our mission of finding forever homes for cats like Darla, each with their own unique story and capacity for love.

Charlie and Pearl, best described as two peas in a pod, were mere kittens when we rescued them. Their start was rocky; they were both incredibly timid, hissing at human interaction, and arrived at our BMD Cat Welfare Group in a pitiful state - weak and frail. However, their transformation has been stunningly heartwarming.
Tiny Pearl, no bigger than the palm of your hand, and her hefty brother, Chunky Charlie, flourished under our care. Filled with ample love, attention, and care, they glowed with renewed health and vigour rapidly. It was almost as though they blossomed right in front of our very eyes into the delightful duo they are today.
Pearl and Charlie remain as inseparable as ever, each day loving their shared adventure called 'life'. A life with a splendid window view nonetheless! Their joy is truly infectious and a testament to the power of a little love and care.
We couldn't be happier that these tiny treasures found their forever home together, where they continue to revel in their companionship.
