BMD Cat Welfare Group - What we do, Who we are, Why we established, Where we are.
BMD - Blue Mountains & Districts Cat Welfare Group is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit, registered charity.
Our small group of volunteers works to rescue, rehabilitate, desex, and rehome unowned, stray, abandoned, and surrendered cats and kittens. All helping to reduce the adverse impact of stray and untamed cats on the environment.
Our team of volunteers has extensive experience in cat rescue and related charity work.
BMD services towns and villages within the Blue Mountains, Lithgow, Bathurst, and beyond.

Our members are passionate and dedicated to helping cats, people, and the environment.
To this end we:
We saw a clear need for a local cat rescue and welfare service to care for cats, reduce their environmental impact, and provide people with wonderful companions.
We have a pro-life approach and have found that even the most apprehensive and timid cats can become excellent companions.
Our mission is to improve the lives of unowned, dumped, lost, and abandoned cats and kittens.
We work with integrity to provide high-quality treatment for all cats and kittens. Every cat deserves a home.
We support the environment by:
Cathy and Christine R. established the group. Board Members and Volunteers take on roles within the group according to expertise and time available.
This includes everything from administrative work to scrounging for and delivering cat food and supplies and working in the Op Shop.
Some members donate their time and provide funds for food and medicines if the need arises.

Christine S

Christine takes in cats and kittens, often in very poor condition. She manages, almost miraculously, to bring them back from the brink, making them healthy, socialised, and ready for adoption.
As BMD Cat Welfare Group does not operate a shelter, our
volunteer Foster Carers care for and home all our cats.
Carers provide a safe, supportive, loving home for the cats and kittens while monitoring their health and behaviour. They provide an environment to help socialise the cats and prepare them for adoption and their forever homes.
BMD relies heavily on sales from the Op Shop to finance expenditure.
BMD Cat Welfare Group receives no Government funding. All work is undertaken by volunteers. Expenditure is covered by:
BMD Cat Welfare would not exist without donations and support from:
We gratefully acknowledge the enormous generosity of our sponsor, Robert Tinsey, Solicitor, who has to date (November 2024) contributed $35,000 since establishment in April 2020.
Robert's significant contribution to the BMD Cat Welfare Group has helped with our charity's start-up and ongoing financial demands.
BMD Cat Welfare would not exist without your support. Thank you to all our group members, volunteers, Facebook supporters, and community members for your kindness, generosity, and unfailing support. The many like-minded, caring, and generous people who contribute, share our values and respond brilliantly during times of great need. |
At BMD Cat Welfare Rescue, we are incredibly fortunate to have the support of like-minded organisations such as ARC (Animal Rescue Cooperative), who share our unwavering commitment to helping animals in need. We are profoundly grateful for ARC's support, which has been a cornerstone of our mission. As a registered charity, ARC stands alongside animal rescue organisations, community groups, and those affected by emergencies, providing vital care for animals.
The mission of ARC is not just a noble cause, but a crucial one. They provide direct and indirect assistance through rescue and rehoming efforts and offer food, supplies, and support to animals in rescue and community settings.
ARC's commitment to continuously improving how rescuers can be assisted in saving more lives is a testament to the importance and impact of their work.
One of their main activities is assisting organisations like ours by providing food, medical supplies, financial aid, and emergency resources. Crucially, they redirect around 500 tonnes of potential landfill waste annually to animal rescuers and community groups through food and product donations.
During crises, ARC mobilises teams to offer emergency support, including provisions of food, medical supplies, and animal rescue efforts. They collaborate with major vendors and rescuers to ensure food security and sustainability by distributing resources to those in need.
At BMD, we are deeply appreciative of ARC's unwavering commitment. Their generous donations of cat food and supplies have played a pivotal role in our efforts to care for the felines we rescue and rehabilitate.
The periodic notifications from ARC about the available goods, which often include food, supplies, toys, and bedding from esteemed organisations like Petbarn Foundation, Royal Canin, Proudly Mars, Hills Pet Nutrition, Whimzees AU & NZ, Wellness Pet Food, and Black Hawk Pet Care, have significantly reduced our operational costs. This, in turn, has allowed us to allocate more funds towards crucial veterinary fees.
We are excited about the future of our partnership with ARC and the potential it holds for creating a better world for animals in need. Together, we can make a significant difference in their lives.
