A Huge Thank You again to Animal Rescue Cooperative (ARC), for their generous donation of cat food and supplies.
Pictured is Cathy (BMD President) with food and supplies from the fantastic team from the ARC. ARC’s unwavering commitment to supporting animal rescue organisations like ours is truly commendable. The donated items mean the funds that would have been spent on food and supplies will now go towards our vet bills. Thank you ARC and all the generous vendors and donors that donate food and supplies to help so many: Petbarn Foundation, Royal Canin, Proudly Mars, Hills Pet Nutrition, Whimzees, Wellness Pet Food, and Black Hawk Pet Care. .
See Our Supporters on our About Us page for more information on ARC.
Meet Sky and Shelley, two bonded tortie sisters searching for a loving home together. These resilient girls have overcome past challenges, including a difficult adoption experience, and need a stable environment to rebuild trust. Affectionate and adaptable, they're happiest lounging around and getting along with dogs, but prefer being the only cats. Ideal for a home with children over 12, they thrive with patience and care. Their adoption fee is reduced to $260 for both, making this the perfect opportunity to welcome these gentle souls into your life.

Late last week, we received an urgent call about a dire situation unfolding in the Lower Mountains—a sighting of several abandoned kittens. With swift action, we successfully rescued ten kittens: six of them are around three weeks old, while the remaining four are estimated to be five to six weeks old. Along with them, we rescued a young female cat.
We are collaborating with local residents to manage this situation and prioritize capturing and desexing the mothers and any male cats. This ongoing issue began years ago with the abandonment of a few undesexed cats, leading to a growing population of stray cats in the area.
These young kittens, seemingly left to fend for themselves, urgently require veterinary treatment and care. We are reaching out for your help to provide them with the medical attention, special nourishment, and ongoing care they desperately need. Additionally, we urgently require more foster carers to offer temporary homes for these kittens. If you can assist, please contact Suzanne at 0414 953 992—we will provide food and litter to those who can help.
Our funds are currently stretched to their limit. Any contribution you can make will be immensely appreciated. Every donation will go directly towards the care of these kittens and support our continuous efforts to manage and control the stray cat population through desexing. Thank you for your generosity and support. .
It's been quite the journey for Tom Tom since joining the BMD family in early August. We're thrilled to share that he's received a clean bill of health from the vets! The second lump on his neck only needed draining, so no further surgery is required.
The veterinary team was amazed at how well Tom Tom's leg healed and how smoothly he adapted to life on three legs. Tom Tom continues to impress us all with his resilience and zest for life, especially enjoying his cat scratchers and scratching posts! .
A huge thank you to Stewart Street Vets for their exceptional care and compassion throughout Tom Tom's recovery. And, of course, to all of you who supported Tom Tom along the way, we extend our deepest gratitude. This special cat has indeed won hearts; your generosity has made all the difference.
We are still looking for Op Shop Volunteers to join our team and work Wednesdays twice monthly.
The BMD Op Shop is open from 10.00am to 4.00pm daily. Shorter shifts are available from 10.00am to 1.00pm and 1.00pm to 4.00pm.
For more information: Visit the shop (114 Bathurst Road Katoomba) on Monday mornings, Fridays or Saturdays. OR, call Christine on 0410 604 253.
We look forward to hearing from you.
We urgently need cat foster carers to help more cats and kittens in need. The demand for safe, temporary homes exceeds our current capacity, and your assistance could mean the world to a furry friend needing care.
If you have space and love to offer, please consider fostering one or more cats. We provide all the necessities, including food and litter, to make this journey as rewarding as possible.
Join us in making a difference! For more information or to express your interest, contact Suzanne at 0414 953 992. Your help offers hope and a haven to cats in need.
We are incredibly grateful to Katoomba & Upper Blue Mountains Bendigo Community Bank for their generous sponsorship of $3,500. This support is instrumental in advancing BMD's efforts to rescue, desex, rehabilitate, and home cats and kittens. It also helps us educate the public on humane treatment programs.
With limited resources, such contributions are vital, ensuring we can continue this important work, protecting both our feline friends and the beautiful native environment.
Meet Otis, a loving ginger cat who has faced health challenges with remarkable resilience. After undergoing surgery for an inner ear abscess, scans revealed a collapsed lung and a severe nasal infection. Despite these hurdles, Otis remains in good spirits, charming everyone at the Animal Referral Hospital in Homebush with his sweet nature.
Thanks to Dr Monica's swift actions and the expert care of Dr Sarah, Dr Emily, and their team, Otis is on a hopeful path to recovery. Your support is crucial as we continue to provide him with the necessary medical care. Our funds are limited, and your donations can make a meaningful difference in ensuring Otis and other cats receive the care they need. Thank you for your generosity in helping Otis on his journey to health.
Tom Tom continues his journey from street life to healing, showing resilience and charm at every turn. After successfully recovering from a leg amputation, he's been relishing saltwater spa baths and physiotherapy, boosting his recovery. Recently, Tom Tom underwent his first surgery to remove a neck lump. Despite needing extra recovery time, his affectionate nature was evident as he nuzzled the nurse's hand upon waking. Back home, he relaxes in his favourite lounge, healing with Christine's attentive care. With another surgery on the horizon, Tom Tom is one step closer to finding a loving forever home. Your support has been pivotal in his journey, and continued donations will ensure cats like Tom Tom receive the care they deserve. Thank you for being part of his inspiring story. The photo shows Tom Tom thanking Doug, his No. 1 supporter.
Stories Include:
Meet Scarlett, a charming nine-month-old laid-back girl who is content doing her own thing.
Until 19 OCTOBER, you can adopt Scarlett or ANY other Rescue Cat from BMD for a significantly reduced fee.
January 2024 we reached out for help to save Dominic (Dom), a tiny kitten battling brutal injuries and looming blindness. BMD asked for assistance with funding to cover surgeries and his ongoing care.
After eight months of challenges and triumphs, our beloved rescue kitten Dom has found his forever home with the kind-hearted Laura. In a delightful turn of events, Dom's companion Puss Puss has also been adopted into the same loving family.
Dom's bravery continues to shine as he helps Puss Puss adjust to their new canine siblings. His adventurous spirit remains strong, conquering tall scratching posts and forming an unlikely friendship with a dog named Milo.
We're immensely grateful to all who supported Dom's journey. Your compassion has given these deserving cats a chance at a happy, love-filled life. Thank you for being part of this heartwarming story and for enabling us to create more happy endings for cats in need.
Tom Tom, our brave rescue cat, continues to make impressive strides in his recovery. Following a complex operation that included leg amputation and extensive dental work, Tom Tom has shown remarkable adaptability.
Despite a recent setback involving his dental stitches, which required an emergency vet visit, Tom Tom's indomitable spirit shines through. He's now back with his foster carer, Christine, enjoying a special diet and preparing for physiotherapy.
The dedicated team at Stewart Street Veterinary Hospital in Bathurst remains optimistic about Tom Tom's progress, especially his leg's healing.
BMD Cat Welfare Group is deeply grateful for all supporter contributions. Your ongoing donations are vital in helping cats like Tom Tom on their journey to health and happiness.

In the world of cat rescue, every story is unique. We're thrilled to share that Trooper (ginger boy), one of our rescues, has recovered and found his forever home. His resilience and spirit have led him to the happy ending we always hope for.
However, rescue work also brings heartbreak. Despite our best efforts, BJ's (black and white little girl) journey took a different path. Facing multiple health challenges, her little body couldn't overcome the obstacles. BJ has peacefully passed and now rests in our Lavender Garden.
While we celebrate Trooper's success, we also honor BJ's memory. Both cats remind us why we continue our mission, through joys and sorrows. Thank you for supporting us in giving every animal the best chance at life and comfort.

Meet Puss Puss, the charming black male kitten seeking your attention. At 8 months old, his dominant side is simply a plea for affection. A true sook, he'll happily roll over for tummy rubs and bask in your undivided love…
Though our beloved kitten Dominic (Dom) has sadly lost his sight, his spirit remains unbroken. His next four weeks will determine if his remaining eye will need to be removed. Despite the challenges, his foster mother, Christine, and the vet team tirelessly work to provide the best care. Dom's journey signifies the rescue's struggles amidst sparse foster carers and financial constraints. However, your outstanding support empowers us to continue our work. We implore you to share Dom's story, widening our fundraising, adoption, and foster carer network to sustain this. Remember, every little bit adds up to turning the tide in Dom's favour.
Six weeks on from his eye-removal surgery, Dom isn't just surviving, he's thriving. Despite the horrific abuse he suffered, which included severe injuries to both eyes, Dom is gaining weight and his wounds are making an excellent recovery.
There's still a chance that a second surgery will be necessary to remove his remaining injured eye - but you wouldn't guess it from his behaviuor. Dom's lack of vision doesn't deter him from living a full life. Climbing, jumping, and playfully scurrying through his small cat tunnel are just a few of his favourite activities. With fearless determination, Dom has truly proven to be a little daredevil.
The sweetest part of all? He absolutely adores curling up on his foster mum, Christine, 's shoulder for a snooze. As he purrs away contentedly—or, as Christine puts it, 'keeps his little engine running at top speed’—you can’t help but admire this brave, resilient, and loving little cat.
22/3/24 - MINI UPDATE ON DOM - He is at the Vets today for an assessment if he can keep his eye. Here is hoping.
