24 October 2023 - update

Hello Everyone. Rocky here again.  Yes, that was fast!

Guess what -  Purr, purr, purr? No, you can't possibly guess. What would be the best thing EVER? Purr, purr, purr.

The people I came to for a meet and greet said to heck with the trial period - "We want to adopt Rocky"!

I am so happy I could burst. Wait. . . it gets even better - they are the same people who have also just said: "We want to adopt Roger Ramjet." Roger is a dear mate of mine from that awful hoarder situation in January. Let's not talk about that now; it is behind us. We are the last of our cohort from that time to be adopted.

Thank you, Christine. Thank you, Suzanne. Thank you to all you wonderful people who have supported us.  And, of course, thank you to my new, outstanding forever family; you are just the best. Purr, purr, purr.

That's it; I have burst. Tears are spilling like wildflowers sprouting in the desert after the rain—Purr, purr, purr.

Wuv you all. Purr, purr, purr.

Psst: Now that the truth is clear and you know that we rescue cats make the BEST companions, purr, purr, purr, you are probably a little disappointed that I am now spoken for. Fear not. Other rescue cats ready for adoption will shower you with gratitude and love. Purr, purr, purr.

Hello Everyone. Rocky here again.

I am just beside myself... I am going for a meet and greet this week!! Purr, purr, purr.

Cross your paws for me. xxxxxx

19 October 2023 - update

Hello, Everyone. Rocky here. It is time that I did my own updates and let you know how things are going for me.

Another reason I want to make this update myself is because I want to thank all of you for what you have done for me - THANK YOU.

Phew, so - how are things going for me? Short answer - GREAT:) In fact, I have been told that I purr so much that my purr motor would continue underwater. This is probably true because I love my physio baths so much that I leap in as soon as Christine (she is my carer, and frankly, I wuv her) prepares my bath, I am in it - prrr prrr prrr.

She keeps telling me that I can now straighten my leg (which is also true, but hey, I'm not giving up my bath time, physio, and all that attention) prrr prrr prrr. The truth is, I will probably always have a limp, a very debonnaire one, and will need ongoing arthritis medication. Oh well! prrr prrr prrr.

I have saved the best for last - (I'm so excited). I may be ready to be adopted soon - cool! prrr prrr prrr prrr prrr.

29 August 2023 - update

Rocky finally had his operation on Wednesday, 23 August.

He had a tough few days after the surgery. Rocky ripped the stitches and pain patches off and had to be re-stitched, but he is now doing well.

Rocky saw the vet yesterday, and they are very happy with him.  He is now eating and drinking but is still on powerful pain medication.

The surgeon said he had never seen such damage to a leg.

Rocky is a little fighter, and we want to do everything we can for him.

4 August 2023 - update

Rocky is booked for surgery on 21 August as the surgeon is happy that Rocky has now put on weight. He is on special medication for the next three weeks before his surgery as it will be a three-and-a-half-hour operation, and his surgeon wants Rocky's lungs to be in the best possible condition.

Look how handsome Rocky is now!

14 July 2023 - Update:

We want to thank everyone for their support of Rocky. We are very grateful for having raised $2,100.00 for his surgery.

Rocky is still on medication and is improving. He has his good days and some bad days.  We all keep our fingers crossed that he will be well enough for surgery in a few weeks.

We will keep you updated on Rocky’s progress.

20 June 2023 - Rocky:

Unfortunately, Rocky wasn’t well enough to have the surgery on 19 June.

His chest infection has still not cleared sufficiently. The orthopedic Surgeon didn’t want to take the risk of him going into cardiac arrest.

The Surgeon is rescheduling Rocky’s surgery for 4 to 6 weeks. He has prescribed medication and advised Rocky’s carer how best to manage his leg.

The good news is that the Surgeon believes he will be able to fix Rocky’s leg and not have to amputate it.

Thank you to everyone who has so far donated funds for Rocky. We will provide a running update of the funds received.

About Rocky:

Rocky came into care at BMD Cat Welfare as a kitten from an emergency rescue hoarder situation in January.

He had a severe lung infection requiring antibiotic injections every day. In addition to this, due to malnutrition prior to being rescued, Rocky dislocated his knee.

Specialist surgery is required to repair the damage to Rocky’s knee. However, he could not have the surgery until his lung infection cleared and he regained strength.

Confined to a cage, Rocky received all the vet-prescribed treatments from his carer.

Rocky’s infection has cleared, and he is well enough for surgery on Monday, 19 June 2023.

He is the sweetest loving kitten and just purrs and purrs despite what he has been through.  The vets had trouble listening to his lungs as he wouldn’t stop purring.

Why Are We Asking for Funding?

Well, frankly, we are doing it pretty tough at the moment!

BMD Cat Welfare Group is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit, registered charity. We receive no funding other than your generosity and the sale of goods at our Op Shop in Katoomba.

Since the beginning of the year, we have had an enormous influx of cats and kittens requiring medical attention and care.

We do acknowledge the excellent support given by people during these challenging times.

BMD Cat Welfare AND Rocky, thank you, in advance, for any help you can give. All donations over $2 are, of course, tax deductible.
